Tom Brady |
NE |

* |
1 |
Brady will probably not duplicate his 50 TD and 4,800 yard season from
last year, but with Moss, Welker and Watson expect 37-40 TD's. He is the
only QB that will be off the board in the first round in all leagues. Only
minor thing to be aware of is that he is still having ankle injury issues. |
|
2 |
Peyton Manning |
IND |
4 |
* |
1 |
Even with Marvin Harrison out most of last season, Manning still put up
very good numbers. He did have a minor knee operation in July and will
miss most of the preseason. Reggie Wayne and Anthony Gonzalez continue to
improve and with a good running game, Manning should put up his typical
4,000 yards and 30-32 TD's. Only issue you need to be aware of is that he
had minor surgery around his knee to remove an infected bursa sac. |
|
3 |
Tony Romo |
DAL |
10 |
* |
2 |
Had an excellent first season as a full-time starter. With T.O. and Jason
Witten to throw to, Romo should be in line for another good year. Will get
the 4,000 yards and 30 TD's, but does throw a few more INT's then the
other top QB's. Will be drafted in rounds 2 or 3 of most drafts. |
|
4 |
Drew Brees |
NO |
9 |
* |
2 |
Brees had a horrible first month of the season in 2007, but played very
well the rest of the way. With targets like Marques Colston, Reggie Bush
and newcomer Jeremy Shockey expect even better stats in 2008. We would
expect Brees to be drafted in rounds 3 or 4 of most fantasy drafts. |
|
5 |
Carson Palmer |
CIN |
8 |
* |
2 |
With Chad Johnson back in the fold, Palmer will remain a top 5 fantasy QB.
Getting TE Ben Utecht in the offseason will also help his fantasy stats as
it is one more weapon at his disposal. The running game does not look that
strong, so he should get plenty of TD passing attempts in the red zone.
Threw 20 INT's in 2007, that number should decrease back to his norm of
15. |
|
6 |
Ben Roethlisberger |
PIT |
6 |
* |
2 |
Had a stellar 2007 season and jumped up into the very good category of
fantasy QB's. Big Ben has a high yards per attempt and completion ratio,
but Pittsburgh likes to run and with them drafting Rashard Mendenhall some
of the TD's may revert back to the run. Still, expect around 3,200 yards
and 28-30 TD passes. |
|
7 |
Donovan McNabb |
PHI |
7 |
* |
3 |
McNabb leads the next group of QB's who could be fantasy starters (tier
3), but there is a definite drop off from the top 6. McNabb did not look
that good the first half of 2007, but came on strong the latter portion of
the season. He appears to be running much better, but other than Brian
Westbrook, the supporting cast is just average with no red zone threats. |
|
8 |
Derek Anderson |
CLE |
5 |
* |
3 |
Anderson came out of nowhere last season and took the fantasy world by
storm. First the good, he has great weapons in Braylon Edwards, Kellen
Winslow and newly acquired Donte Stallworth. He also is backed by a strong
running game to help keep defenses honest. The bad, is he did not perform
well in the second half of the year and with Brady Quinn ready to step in
he can not have too many bad games. If you draft him be sure to handcuff
Quinn later in the draft. |
|
9 |
Matt Hasselbeck |
SEA |
4 |
* |
3 |
Hasselbeck had a very good season last year, so why is he not in the top
tier of QB's? We still like him as a lower end starting fantasy QB, but
last season Seattle had a poor running game and will be more balanced this
year thus the passing attempts should go down. He also lost D.J. Hackett
to free agency and both Deion Branch and Bobby Engram will miss the start
of the season because of injuries. |
|
10 |
Jay Cutler |
DEN |
8 |
* |
3 |
Cutler did very well in 2007 considering it was his first full year as a
starter. It was even more impressive when you know that he was diagnosed
with type-A diabetes and his receivers were banged up most of the season.
This offseason they added Darrell Jackson, Brandon Stokley and rookie
Eddie Royal to the mix which should only help. 3,500 yards, 22 passing
TD's, 200 rushing yards make him a solid starting fantasy QB's. |
|
11 |
David Garrard |
JAX |
7 |
* |
3 |
Was 9-3 in his 12 starts last season and proved to be worthy of a starting
spot on your fantasy team. He will not light it up, but is projected to
produce 2,800 yards, around 20 TD's, very few interceptions and a few
hundred yards rushing. The receiving crew is nothing special, but the good
ground game will keep defenses more at home and enable some passing
opportunities. |
|
12 |
Eli Manning |
NYG |
4 |
* |
3 |
The younger Manning silenced some of his critics by winning the Super Bowl
last year, but his fantasy worth is still up for debate. He is fairly
consistent and we see another 3,400 yards, 24 TD's and 20 INT performance
on the horizon. Jeremy Shockey is no longer in NY and Plaxico Burress
injuries do worry us somewhat as he is the only consistent playmaker on
this team. |
|
13 |
Marc Bulger |
STL |
5 |
* |
3 |
The offensive line was awful last year, mainly because of injuries, and
this heavily affected Bulger's poor 2007 season. He is a true risk/reward
pick. You must realize that if you draft him that he could be a top 10 QB
if he stays healthy or a big injury risk. As of mid-August, Steven Jackson
still is not in camp, Torry Holt knees are not what they use to be and old
reliable Isaac Bruce has moved on. Our suggestion is if you draft him as a
starter, get a good backup. |
|
14 |
Brett Favre |
NYJ |
5 |
* |
3 |
Now that the offseason fiasco is over, Favre can concentrate on playing
football. He has a decent group of receivers in Jerricho Cotchery,
Laveranues Coles and rookie Dustin Keller to throw to. We do not expect a
repeat of the 2007 season, but 3,400 yards, 23 TD's and 18 INT could be
expected. Favre is a borderline starting fantasy QB or very good backup. |
|
15 |
Jake Delhomme |
CAR |
9 |
* |
4 |
Was off to a great start in 2007 with 8 TD's and 1 INT, but was lost for
the season with an elbow injury during week 3. How well he is recovered
from the Tommy John surgery determines his rankings (anywhere from 10 to
16). The good news is his receiving group is improved with Mushin
Muhammad, D.J. Hackett and rookie John Carlson, but remember Steve Smith
will be out the first 2 games of the season. |
|
16 |
Philip Rivers |
SD |
9 |
* |
4 |
Recovering from a torn ACL he sustained in last years playoffs, it appears
he will be ready to start the season in 2008. He will miss most of the
preseason games and thus may be a little rusty early on. 3,000 yards and
20 TD's should be expected by Rivers in this offense dominated by
LaDainian Tomlinson. |
|
17 |
Matt Schaub |
HOU |
8 |
* |
4 |
Schaub just needs to stay healthy to move up the rankings. He has Andre
Johnson to throw to who is one of the best WR in the game and a good
safety valve in TE Owen Daniels. He throws for a high completion percent
and likes to throw the long ball. 3,000 yards and 20 TD's should be
reached if he stays healthy this season. |
|
18 |
Kurt Warner |
ARI |
7 |
* |
4 |
A proven veteran who is more than capable in case he beats out Matt
Leinart. If he does get to start, he proved in 2007 that he can still put
up some very big fantasy numbers. No official confirmation yet, but we
think he will be the starter come week #1. If he is, we think he would be
a fantasy backup. |
|
19 |
Vince Young |
TEN |
6 |
* |
4 |
Overall Young took a step back in his sophomore season. He did have a
better completion percentage, but threw way too many INT's and his running
game was hindered with minor leg injuries. The upside is he has a better
surrounding cast around him, he has loads of potential and he is the best
running QB in the game today. We would pick him as a solid fantasy backup. |
|
20 |
Jason Campbell |
WAS |
10 |
* |
4 |
Missed the final 3 games of the season last year after suffering a
dislocated kneecap. He is ready for the 2008 season and a decent choice
for as a backup fantasy QB for your team. Supporting cast around him is
better than most teams, but that has not lead to good fantasy stats. 3,000
yards and 18 TD's is what can be expected. |
|
21 |
Aaron Rodgers |
GB |
8 |
* |
4 |
Taking over for a legend is never easy to do, but at least Rodgers will
have a very good supporting cast and offensive line around him. He has
never started a game in the NFL, but he has had plenty of time to learn
the system over the past 3 seasons watching Brett Favre run the offense.
Projecting his stats is very difficult but we think 2,900 yards and 19
TD's should be obtainable. |
|
22 |
Jon Kitna |
DET |
4 |
* |
4 |
Numbers have been inflated the past few years because of the very large
number of pass attempts, this should go down as Mike Martz has moved on.
The good news is Kitna has two very good WR to throw to in Roy Williams
and Calvin Johnson. The running game should also be better with rookie
Kevin Smith in the mix. The bad news is Kitna throws a lot on INT's and if
Detroit starts losing Drew Stanton could take over as the starting QB. |
|
23 |
Jeff Garcia |
TB |
10 |
* |
5 |
At 38, Garcia is more of a fantasy backup or bye week fill-in at this
stage of his career. The supporting cast around him is only average at
best. He had a decent year in 2007, but is projected to only get 2,600
yards and maybe 16 TD's this season. |
|
24 |
Tarvaris Jackson |
MIN |
8 |
* |
5 |
Jackson is entering his third season and second season as the starter. The
Vikings did add Bernard Berrian this offseason which should help Jackson's
progress as he now has a true #1 WR to throw to. But, Minnesota has an
excellent running game which will hinder his fantasy value. |
|
25 |
JaMarcus Russell |
OAK |
5 |
* |
5 |
Has not looked overly impressive in camp, throwing a lot of dink and dunk
passes and not the long ball. Has the physical skills to excel, but needs
to improve on reading defenses and understanding the offense better.
Receiving group is just average, but running game looks strong thus he is
a low end fantasy option. |
|
26 |
Trent Edwards |
BUF |
6 |
* |
5 |
Edwards will begin the season as the starter, but J.P. Losman is ready to
start if he falters. He was a rookie last season, so he should show
improvement over his 2007 numbers. The Bills like to run the ball and
control the clock, thus less passing opportunities. The surrounding cast
around Edwards is ok as Marshawn Lynch is a very good RB, Lee Evans and
rookie James Hardy are competent receivers. |
|
27 |
Chad Pennington |
MIA |
4 |
* |
5 |
After a good year in 2006, had a bad year in 2007. He is what he is, a
weak-armed, tough player who is better for his NFL team than your fantasy
football team. With a very poor receiving group around him, his stats will
be well below an average fantasy QB in 2008. |
|
28 |
J.T. O'Sullivan |
SF |
9 |
* |
5 |
Appears to be winning the battle for the starting QB job. Alex Smith and
Shaun Hill will push him all season long for playing time, so he does not
have much room for error. Has looked comfortable with the offense in the
preseason game. |
|
29 |
Brodie Croyle |
KC |
6 |
* |
5 |
Croyle was the starter at the end of the year last season and goes into
2008 as the incumbent. KC leans more to the run and with a pitiful
receiving group other than Dwayne Bowe and an aging Tony Gonzalez, thus
consider Croyle a low end fantasy option. Veteran Damon Huard or youngster
Tyler Thigpen will step in quickly if Croyle does not show advancement. |
|
30 |
Matt Ryan |
ATL |
7 |
* |
5 |
The rookie appears to be the front runner for the starting job. He has the
poise and arm strength to do well, but the running game is much better
than the receiving crew, Roddy White is the only quality target with Alge
Crumpler going to the Titans. |
|
31 |
Kyle Orton |
CHI |
8 |
* |
5 |
Appears to have beaten out Rex Grossman for the starting QB job in
Chicago. Even if he does start, he would be a very low end fantasy option.
He has a very weak arm and other than TE has a poor supporting cast around
him. |
|
32 |
Joe Flacco |
BAL |
10 |
|
5 |
Has been declared the starter to begin the season. He is the long term
solution for Baltimore, but he is not ready for the job right now. Very
low end fantasy option. |
|
33 |
Matt Leinart |
ARI |
7 |
|
5 |
Leinart has not been that impressive during his two year NFL career. He
only played 5 games last season after breaking his collarbone. With Larry
Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin as your receivers, you would think he would
succeed. The truth is Leinart has thrown more INT's than TD's and has only
completed 55% of his passes. With a poor preseason so far, Leinart may not
begin the season as the starter. |
|
34 |
Alex Smith |
SF |
9 |
|
6 |
#1 pick and all of that money, still it looks like SF is going to go with
J.T. O'Sullivan as their starting QB entering the season. Smith will be
given the first opportunity if O'Sullivan falters. |
|
35 |
Chris Redman |
ATL |
7 |
|
6 |
Is battling rookie Matt Ryan for the starting job. It appears Ryan will be
the starter, but if he falters Redman will step in. |
|
36 |
Rex Grossman |
CHI |
8 |
|
6 |
Appears to have lost the starting QB job to Kyle Orton. He is
inconsistent, throws a lot of interceptions, is injury prone with that
said, he still may end up being the Chicago starting QB. |
|
37 |
Brady Quinn |
CLE |
5 |
|
6 |
Second string QB who will only see playing time if starter is injured. The
difference with Quinn is that if given the chance to start. He could
actually put up some quality fantasy numbers. |
|
38 |
Troy Smith |
BAL |
10 |
* |
6 |
It appeared that he would win the QB battle over Joe Flacco and Kyle
Boller. In a turn of events, Flacco has been declared the starter. Even
if he does eventually get to start, he would be a very low fantasy option. |
|
39 |
Gus Frerotte |
MIN |

Frerotte could do quite well if given the chance. |
|
40 |
Chad Henne |
MIA |
4 |

6 |
With Chad Pennington signing, will start the season as a backup. Henne
appears to be the QB of the future for Miami, but will only play this
season if there is injuries. |
|
41 |
Sage Rosenfels |
HOU |
8 |

Second string QB who will only see playing time if starter is injured,
which could happen based on Matt Schaub's past injury problems. |

Second string QB who will only see playing time if starter is injured,
which could happen based on Donovan McNabb's past injury problems. |
|
43 |
Kyle Boller |
BAL |
10 |

6 |
Battling Joe Flacco for the backup QB position. Boller may end up getting
some starts this season, but we would expect Flacco to take over if Troy
Smith can not get the job done. |

Luke McCown |
